Gregg Dean's Running History

Ever since my geometry teacher told me mid freshman year that I looked like a runner and asked me to join the cross country team, I’ve been running.  While in grad school at Virginia Tech, I started coaching cross country.  Until four years ago, I coached cross country, indoor and outdoor track. In the fall of 2012, I started winning local races and that’s when running became more than just a hobby or stress reliever.  A little while later I trained for my first half and said that was as far as I would race.

Qualifying for Boston

Later that same year I figured if Dad can qualify for Boston, so could I, and I started training for Myrtle Beach 2015.  I broke three hours, which was my goal, but it made me realize that I couldn’t just run, I needed to strengthen my body.  An injury put me down for a while but I later realized that taking time off was probably making it worse…I needed to strength train as well.  Ever since then, I have been a big proponent of complimenting running with strength training.

A Running Resource for You

Whether you have completed an Ironman, a marathon, want to complete your first 5k, or simply looking for motivation to get started, I want to be a resource for you. I believe in giving you the tools and knowledge you need to be successful and meet your fitness goals. Hopefully you’ll be inspired to push yourself, and others, to something even greater than you already are. While I know that we are not all running the same race, we are all running our own race and I want to inspire you to be your best – whether that’s lacing up for the first time and running a mile, finishing a 5k, or completing your first marathon.
